typical cast of characters:
adam auriemmo (guitar) has played hot swing for almost nine days, mostly with baro and his former band rue. as a teenager, adam became enamored with the music of louis armstrong and would often spend his monday nights at fat tuesdays in nyc listening to les paul, his jaw on the floor. when adam heard django reinhardt, whom les paul had played with, he fell madly for django’s playful, spontaneous, liberated, and inventive style. hence the gypsy jazz thing.
david willey (accordion) sounds like david willey. he has been involved in an impressive and diverse range of musical projects and his accordion playing, complex in flavor, shows it… dark and sweet, sometimes gritty, sometimes light and airy, often witty, somehow always sounding like dave. this guy plays with a lot of heart.
dexter payne (clarinet) plays the clarity. kinda sounds like clarinet, but dexter also brings to baro his soulful experience and a sort of warm wisdom and clarity in both his playing and his energy with the band. his lines are smooth and playful, no doubt drawing on his considerable experience playing brazilian choro music. dexter also has a long history with things which swing.
amy biondo (vocals) sings with baro on most nights. a fixture in the area with her band sundays at vic’s, amy’s vocals seem to easily find that shortcut from your ears to your follicles, inducing goosebumps. lyrical and lively, playful and spirited, total ringer.
sam fuqua (bass) smoothly lays the swing foundation, providing the bass drum for that gypsy jazz guitar snare. he stands there walking his bass and beaming, his playing as smooth and warm as his bass tone. he once stepped on a kitten on purpose though.
